From Spectacle to Standard – Driving Gender Equity in Leadership and Beyond

Throughout my career I've seen, and continue to see, genuine progress towards gender equality. When I first entered the workforce most leadership positions were held by men. Senior female leaders were few and far between and often considered quite the “spectacle”. Fast forward to now, and I'm in an organisation known for its traditionally male-dominated disciplines, and yet women outnumber men in our Executive Leadership Team!

As TMR's Gender Equity Champion, seeing so many women in senior roles is an achievement that is a reflection of the investment we've made in our workforce. Not only does it speak to our values but is a pragmatic step towards a future that is better for every member of our community.

But, there there's still more work to be done. In my personal life, I believe there's plenty to be said for quiet action and connection; being part of the conversation, challenging what's wrong and unfair, and lifting up those around you. At work, I take great pride in the initiatives TMR has implemented to support women and broaden the opportunities for all genders. Our latest Gender Equity Plan 2022–2024 sets clear goals and targets for measurable change. We have multiple recognition and mentoring programs; several are specifically dedicated to help set women up for success in the workplace. We also have partnerships with schools and universities to support women into male-dominated industries like construction and engineering. There's plenty more too, but you get the idea.

I am so fortunate to be able to say TMR is an organisation that values diversity and we know that everyone benefits when women fully participate and contribute at work and in the community.
