International Women’s Day 2024:
Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress

This year's International Women's Day theme, "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress," emphasises the dual benefits of investing in women – for both individuals and society at large. Recognising and realising the human rights of women and girls is not only a moral imperative but also a wise economic choice. Studies have shown that closing gender employment gaps could potentially increase GDP per capita by up to 20 percent across all regions, highlighting the significant economic returns of empowering women.
UN Women, alongside its partners, spearheads economic empowerment programs globally, regionally, and nationally. These initiatives are strategically designed to target women and girls who are most vulnerable to exclusion and marginalisation, including those living in poverty, rural areas, with disabilities, and from migrant communities. By prioritising these underserved populations, these programs aim to create more inclusive societies where every woman and girl has the opportunity to thrive.
As we observe International Women's Day 2024, let us reaffirm our commitment to investing in women and advancing gender equality. By doing so, we pave the way for progress and prosperity for entire communities and nations. Together, let's work towards a future where every woman and girl's potential is unlocked, contributing to a more equitable and sustainable world for all.
